Disc Formats Each Have Their Own Value

Different media, different formats: while you might expect the industry to automatically switch to new disc versions which offer a much higher storage capacity, the truth is the older formats are still quite useful. Not so long ago, the big battle was between that dark colored non-sticky magnetic tape (mostly known as cassettes) vs. the funny looking shiny silver drink coaster with the hole in the middle [CD's]. Though they looked like a futuristic 45 record, you couldn’t just throw them on a record player – which, in itself, had been replaced by the tape player.

JVC’s First Three-Layer Combo-Disc Blu-Ray / DVD

JVC has developed and used a reflective film to produce high performance for this revolutionary three layer structure. The outer layer Blu ray can be read with the light blue laser but is transparent to laser light to red light, which has access to internal double-layer DVD. The JVC units have 33.5 GB of total storage capacity with 8.5 GB is allocated to standard video content, 25 GB to store high definition content. JVC has announced its intention to promote his record for the Blu-ray Disc Association in the spring of 2005.
